Sophia Epitropoulos' Story

Sophia was, until recently, a teacher for roughly 15 years. She developed thyroid issues in late 2009, which caused immense pain in her throat. Her endocrinologist suggested that surgery was warranted to remove her thyroid.

She was referred by the original physician to a surgeon, who informed Sophia that the surgery would be a quick outpatient procedure and that she would have 4-6 weeks of hoarseness in her voice; never was she informed that paralysis of her vocal cords was a risk.
